How OpenEtymology builds vocabulary learning content.

Our Philosophy

OpenEtymology is designed to help learners remember English vocabulary through etymology, structure, and word formation. The project focuses on making vocabulary learning more intuitive, memorable, and visually understandable.

Content Sources

OpenEtymology references publicly available linguistic materials, historical language resources, and frequency lists for educational purposes.

Original Content

Definitions, explanations, example sentences, and etymology summaries are independently written and organized for language learning use. Some editorial workflows may involve AI-assisted drafting and language refinement. All published content is reviewed and organized before inclusion.

Pronunciation

Pronunciation playback may rely on the device's built-in speech synthesis system.

Copyright Notice

OpenEtymology does not aim to reproduce proprietary dictionary databases or commercial educational materials. The project is intended as an educational vocabulary-learning tool rather than a replacement for commercial dictionaries.
