Etymology
中英語のpecock（14世紀）に由来し、これは古英語のpēa（クジャク）とcocc（雄鳥）の複合語です。pēaはラテン語のpavoを経て、さらにギリシャ語のtaosに遡ります。
Analysis
元々は「雄のクジャク」を指す語でしたが、現代英語では雌雄を問わずクジャク全体を指すこともあります。ただし、厳密には雌はpeahen、幼鳥はpeachickと呼ばれます。
