Etymology
中英語のcressauntを経て、古フランス語のcreissant（成長する、三日月）に由来する。これはラテン語のcrescere（成長する）の現在分詞crescensに遡る。
Analysis
元々は「成長する」という意味のラテン語に由来し、月が満ちていく様子から三日月を指すようになった。現代では主に三日月形の物体や紋章、またイスラム教のシンボルとしても用いられる。
