Etymology
interquartile は、ラテン語の inter（間に）と quartile（四分位数）から成る。quartile はラテン語の quartus（第4の）に由来し、統計学でデータを4等分する値として19世紀に用いられるようになった。
Analysis
inter- が「間」を表し、quartile が「四分位数」を指すことから、interquartile は「四分位数の間の」という意味になる。主に統計学で、第1四分位数と第3四分位数の間の範囲（四分位範囲）を表す際に用いられる。
