Etymology
macromolecular は、ギリシャ語の makros（大きい）と、ラテン語の molecula（小さな塊）に由来する molecular（分子の）を組み合わせた語です。20世紀初頭に、化学の分野で「巨大分子」を指す macromolecule という名詞が作られ、それに対応する形容詞として macromolecular が使われるようになりました。
