Etymology
中英語の warehous に由来し、ware（商品）と house（建物）の複合語。14世紀頃から「商品を保管する建物」を意味した。
Analysis
元々は「商品を入れる家」という文字通りの意味だったが、時代とともに商業や物流の発展に伴い、大量の物品を保管・管理する施設を指すようになった。現代では、製造業や小売業などで在庫を管理するための大規模な建物を一般的に指す。
