Etymology
succeeding は、動詞 succeed の現在分詞形に由来する。succeed は、ラテン語 succedere（sub-「下に」+ cedere「行く」）から来ており、「後を追う」「続く」という意味があった。フランス語 succéder を経由して英語に入った。
