Etymology
「wind（風）」と「screen（遮蔽物）」からなる複合語。英語で「風を遮るもの」という意味で、自動車の前面ガラスを指すようになった。
Analysis
元々は「風よけ」という一般的な意味だったが、自動車の普及に伴い、特に車の前面ガラスを指すようになった。イギリス英語で一般的で、アメリカ英語では「windshield」が使われる。
