equatorial は、ラテン語の aequator（等しくするもの）に由来する equator に、形容詞接尾辞 -ial が付いてできた語です。equator は、地球を南北に等分する線として、中世ラテン語で circulus aequator（等しくする円）と呼ばれたことに始まります。
Analysis
