Etymology
ラテン語のrespectivus（考慮する、関係する）に由来し、英語では15世紀にrespectiveとして借用された。接頭辞ir-（否定）が付いて、irrespectiveとなった。
Analysis
元々は「考慮しない」という意味で、特に「～にかかわらず」という意味で使われる。現代では主に「irrespective of」の形で、何かを考慮に入れないことを表す。
