Etymology
古英語の「thǣr」と「æfter」が結合してできた語で、文字通り「その後に」という意味。中英語期に「ther-after」として使われ始め、現代英語の「thereafter」に至った。
Analysis
元々は「there（そこ）」と「after（後）」の組み合わせで、時間的な順序を表す副詞として機能した。現代では主に書き言葉で、ある時点より後の出来事を指すのに用いられる。
