Etymology
ギリシャ語の anatomē（切り開くこと）に由来し、ラテン語を経て英語に入った。anatomē は ana-（離れて）と temnein（切る）から成る。
Analysis
元々は「切り開くこと」を意味したが、後に生物の構造を研究する学問を指すようになった。接尾辞 -ist が付くことで「解剖学を専門とする人」という意味になった。
